Blush Skin & Beauty development

Blush Skin & Beauty are a team of skin care professionals based in Port Macquarie. Their old website was a few years old when they came to us, and they were looking for a visual refresh to really showcase their brand.

We started off by making sure we had quality photography. Blush has a unique style and brand, and you can’t convey that with stock photography. We also wanted to showcase the business and the people that work there. Good photography is crucial for this sort of website.

Once we had some photos, we looked at how to design the website to match this, making sure to match their brand colours and logo.

Lots of whitespace is important here. Not only does it help give the website a clean and modern feel, it also makes things feel less cluttered. Content needs room to breathe!

Now that we have the look and feel locked in, it’s time to look at features. The site needs to display:

  • About page with information about the business and staff
  • Provide contact information and a contact form
  • Location and opening hours
  • Treatments page with list of treatments available
  • Links to buy gift vouchers or book a treatment
  • Links to social media
  • Affiliate links to recommended brands
  • Embedded Instagram widget to show recent posts

We like to use ‘sticky’ headers on the websites we design (e.g. the header section — with the logo and navigation — sticks to the top of the page with everything else scrolling underneath it). For Blush, we decided rather than have a solid white background, we’d make that header semi-transparent and slightly blurred, to give you the effect of looking through etched glass.

Nobody wants to scroll through an enormous list of treatments, so we added a menu button to the treatments page to show the selected menu item, and visually hide the remaining treatments. This means the markup for all the treatments is still on the page, making it crawlable by search engines, but making it much easier to fix exactly what you’re looking for.

We’re really happy with the results!
